In the year 2015, Sony has make upgrade its Xperia Z range and introduced three more new models, the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact. All have different specification but share the same degree of water and dust resistance protection of impressive IP68 level rating. Sony have started the application for high-quality water resistant smartphones when it been announced the Xperia Z back in year 2013.

Since then, almost all its top range Xperia Android phones have been able to survive under water. For this Xperia Z5, Sony says it’ll withstand low pressure water jets from all angles and can stand a depth of 1.5 meters underwater for 30 minutes. Sony got in the repeated use underwater with awesome promo pictures. Although showing Xperia phones being used underwater, but something have turned out not to be the best idea to do. We’d recommend to keep it above the water line for the majority of its life, regardless of its ability to expend it life time.

HD Full Resolution Screen (4K).

Sony claims to have lower-resolution content that can be up scaled to near-ultra HD quality. This set-up is in place to preserve battery life (more about this later). In many case, users were hard to discern any substantial difference in quality when viewing 4K video in Sony’s app compared to previous 1080p versions without holding the tablet to near from our faces.

However, the attraction is that the screen only displays 1920x1080 pixels for the vast majority of operating apps. The only awesome exceptions currently are Sony’s works well on video and photos apps. By taking measuring 5.5 in diagonally, the screen has a 3840x2160 pixels which is more than the most of HD TVs monitors. Z5 Camera Capabilities’.

You can now choose to use between 8MP (16:9 aspect ratio), 20MP (16:9 aspect ratio) or 23MP (4:3 aspect ratio). Manual set-up ISO only works with only camera resolutions up to 8MP and 4K video is still another camera mode rather than just another video resolution mode. On the other side, the full 23MP resolution mode is now available in Superior Auto mode which previously been limited only to 8MP with 16:9 aspect ratio.

About the new version of the app, you are now can switch between Superior manual or auto video modes by just swiping up and down the screen just like a very iPhone fashion from the lock screen. Unfortunately, you still have to access a special modes screen first for launching special modes, such as Time Shift Video, Sweep Panorama or 4K video.

The camera button become a clear advantage over the other competition though. Just like a real camera, Z5 offers two-stage action that allows to lock focus and exposure with half-press. It also provide for more stable shooting with just tapping on a virtual button at the screen. In combination with the Z5's angular shapes will makes for comfortable and easy shooting.

Quality of the Image.

Most moving objects will still show some blur but that's the same problem for almost all smartphone cameras when take a shooting in low light. But in low light, the Xperia Z5 maintains its good color across the ISO range and the camera intelligently tends to calculate ideal exposures even in very dark scenes. Even in very low light, it seem shutter speeds don't usually fall below 1/16 sec. Which means, the risk of image getting blur through camera shake is relatively minimize although the lack of optical image stabilization.

In bright light, the AF operates pretty quickly as well, locking on the object under one second. It slows down under lower light but always finds a lock even in a very dark place. Occasionally we found that the camera is to be a little bit inconsistent with some images will show a touch of softness that is caused by the AF not operating 100% precise.

With Qualcomm's processor, the camera app launches very quickly in approximately only one second either by long-pressing the camera button or tapping the app icon. So the Z5 can be ready for capture really quickly and you can do while the phone is still inside your pocket. The Sony Xperia Z5 is certainly act quickly in ordinary general operation and even in challenging tasks. The device will undertake responsively and swiftly with the latest high quality chip-set and 3GB of RAM.

Battery Performance.

Battery life is much better when 4K screen displaying wasn’t activate. When make calls, connected to LTE 4G network for browsing, using GPS, video recording and take pictures, the battery lasted just under 27 hours which is much better with what been expect from a smartphone at this price. Clearly the use of 4K screen working at its native resolution will make substantial effect on battery life.

Battery life is something very subjective to discuss. By using Sony’s video player app, it will automatically up scales non-4K video into 4K display. While not so effecting the battery performance at just over nine and a half hours. Surprisingly this is far behind when using non-4K phones.
